Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee meets in Peshawar for Ramazan moon sighting

A meeting of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee is currently under way in Peshawar for sighting the moon that will signal the start of Ramazan.

The meeting chaired by Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad is still under way at Peshawar’s Eidgah. Separate meetings of the zonal and district Ruet-i-Hilal committees were also held at their respective headquarters.

Speaking to the media ahead of the meeting, Azad said the committee would try to ensure that the whole country celebrated the first fast and Eid on the same day.

He also said that testimonies would be gathered from all over the country.

Alamzeb, a senior meteorologist in Peshawar, said there was some difficulty in seeing the Ramazan moon due to cloudy weather. The Met Department had earlier forecast the possibility of sighting the moon on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Hindustan Times reported that moon had not been sighted in neighbouring India, therefore, Ramazan would begin on Friday.
