Uttarakhand May Introduce 4% Sports Quota In Government Jobs
Chief Secretary SS Sandhu told reporters that the cabinet approved legislation will be introduced in the Uttarakhand Assembly soon.

The Uttarakhand administration is planning to introduce a law in the Assembly that will grant state athletes – who have competed in national and international tournaments and won medals – a four percent reservation in government positions. Under the direction of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state cabinet met in Dehradun and this decision was made. Following the meeting, Chief Secretary SS Sandhu told reporters that the cabinet approved legislation will be introduced in the Uttarakhand Assembly that will give talented athletes four percent horizontal reservation. In a separate decision, the Cabinet agreed to pay single parents or female employees their full income for the duration of their childcare leave, as allowed by law, prior to the start of the leave. According to him, there was already a provision in place to provide childcare leave to female employees or single parents for up to two years, or a total of 730 days during the service time, in exceptional situations such as a child’s illness or to support the child’s education, until the age of eighteen.

Previously, these workers were paid 100% of the allowable leave salary for the first 365 days and 80% during the following year. According to him, this has now been changed such that workers receive a salary throughout their leave that is equal to what they were receiving prior to taking the time off.

He said that the employee used to get 100 percent of the permissible leave salary in the first 365 days and 80 percent of the leave salary in the next 365 days, but the Cabinet amended it. He gave his approval to give leave salary equal to the salary he was receiving before leaving.
