The video garnered over six million views on the social media platform, sparking a diverse array of opinions in the comments section. Some users pondered the qualifications of the multitude of participants while others delved into the contemporary relevance of walk-in interviews. Observations on overpopulation and unemployment challenges in less developed states were also highlighted, and a touch of humour found its way into the discussion.

One user succinctly expressed, “Sad reality of engineering graduates.”

Another person raised a valid point, expressing disappointment at the scene despite technological advancements. They questioned the continued reliance on traditional methods, suggesting, “Sad to see this when we have advanced in tech. Resume online le lete. ATS passed candidates walk in. Uske ooper we have tech like Zoom and Google Meet, why are we not using that?”

A third user voiced a sense of incredulity, stating, “This is ridiculous. Where are we headed?”

According to Bloomberg, India’s unemployment rate rose to a two-year high of 10.09% in October 2023, based on data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE). The high unemployment rate during the July-September period was attributed to the lingering impact of Covid-related restrictions in the country.

However, there is a glimmer of hope, as recent data from the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) indicates a decline in the overall unemployment rate.

As of December 2023, the unemployment rate for individuals aged 15 years and above in urban areas decreased to 6.6% in the September quarter, compared to 7.2% a year ago. This positive trend is also reflected in the gender-specific unemployment rates. Among females aged 15 years and above in urban areas, the unemployment rate declined from 9.4% in the same quarter the previous year to 8.6% in July-September. Similarly, among males, the unemployment rate in urban areas decreased to six per cent during July-September, down from 6.6% in the corresponding period a year ago.
