The war or words over outsider versus Maharashtrians has taken a fresh turn.

New Delhi: The war or words over outsider versus Maharashtrians has taken a fresh turn in Mumbai. Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh on Friday claimed that he has received death threats over the phone.

He claimed that an unidentified caller said he would meet the same fate as Ramesh Kini, a tenant in Pune for whose murder Raj Thackeray was accused of in 1996.

He blamed the Maharashtra government of protecting Raj Thackeray. Amar Singh also slammed union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.

Pawar had criticised Amar Singh of making irresponsible statements and said that Samajwadi Party leaders have no work to do.

In response, Amar Singh said Pawar should be stripped of the agriculture portfolio since farmer's suicides are going on unabated.

“Sharad Pawar has done nothing for farmers in Maharashtra farmers suicides still continue. He is only doing a lot for cricket. He should not forget that he is not a sports minister he is the agriculture minister of this country, “ Singh said.

Singh said he feels hurt by statements made by Sharad Pawar and R R Patil over the migrants issue in Mumbai.

“If Sharad Pawar thinks I am unemployed I can give him a fitting reply in a personal capacity,” he added.

Meanwhile, Amar Singh has warned the Maharashtra Government that his party would ‘gherao’ Mumbai police commissioner D N Jadhav if it failed to take action against his complaint that he had received death threat.

Singh also said that state deputy chief minister R R Patil had assured him yesterday that action on the complaint would be taken within a week.

Singh said that if there was no action, he would himself lead the ''gherao'' agitation against the police commissioner who, incidentally, had invited him for his daughter's wedding a few days back.
