Drashti Dhami reveals Pradeep Sarkar was gearing up to `begin a new project after Duranga S1. She also recalled the day she got to know about his death.

The first season of the Zee5 original show Duranga marked Pradeep Sarkar’s swan song. The director, who received wide recognition for films such as Parineeta (2005) and Mardaani (2014), breathed his last on March 24 this year at the age of 67. Hence, Rohan Sippy took over the reins from him for the second season of Duranga that stars Drashti Dhami, Gulshan Devaiah and Amit Sadh.

In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Drashti remembers the late filmmaker and how it was during the shoot of Duranga season two that she came to know that he was no more. “He got very sick after he finished directing season one. We were doing a night shift during season two when we came to know that he had passed away. He was in the hospital for a very long time. He wasn’t in good shape even when we were shooting the first part,” she says.

Drashti further reveals that he was all set to begin work on another project after his return from the hospital and had even begun pre-production on the same. “After he returned from the hospital, he couldn’t get back to work. He was about to start another project. He had already begun the prep work for that but that never took off because he couldn’t resume work after he came out of the hospital,” she remarks.

As for the latest season of Duranga, Drashti will be seen reprising her character of a cop from season one. She began her career twenty years back with a popular music video titled Saiyyan Dil Mein Aana Re and has been seen in a bunch of television shows over the years. Despite her popularity and fans wanting to see her in films, she hasn’t forayed into films in a career spanning two decades. Talking about how films have never been a goal for her, Drashti tells us, “I never thought of doing films and so I wouldn’t know the struggle of getting one. I’m just going where my heart is taking me.”

As of now, she would rather focus on the digital space and see where her career takes her. “I decided to switch from television to OTT for a bit. I’m taking this experience in and enjoying and learning from it. I’m glad that people are liking me and happy with what I’m doing. Let’s see what happens. And to be honest, I’ve not taken the effort of being a part of a film yet,” states the Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon and Geet Hui Sabse Parayi actor.
