Aaditya Thackeray: Permission for 10, then Why is Maha CM Shinde Taking Along 50 People to Davos?

Shiv Sena UBT leader and former minister Aaditya Thackeray on Monday raised questions on the Davos tour of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Maharashtra CM will attend the World Economic Forum at Davos along with a delegation of state government officers from January 15-20. Thackeray asked why the CM needed 50 people in his delegation. He further alleged that some of the delegates are also taking their children along with them to the Davos summit.

Thackeray said that last year Shinde had gone to Davos just for 28 hours for which the state government spent approximately Rs 40 crore. Thackeray said: “To go on such visits, the state government has to take the permission for the period and also has to disclose the name and number of officials who will be attending. I have been told that the Chief Minister is taking along 50 people when he has the permission for only 10. There is no transparency. When we had gone to Davos, we used to make the list of people public, why is this government hiding it?”

Although Thackeray didn’t reveal the names of officials, he asked the Central government to look into it. “We can understand that the industries minister is going with the Maharashtra CM, but why are officials from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of the Deputy Chief Minister and a few agents are part of this tour? How did they get the permission? When the work can be done with a team of 5-6 people, why is the CM is taking along 50 people,” asked Thackeray.

Thackeray also raised the issue of Mumbai-based Mahalaxmi racecourse, as he alleged that a few members of the racecourse are discussing the plan to hand over almost 120 acres of the 226-acre land plot to private builders for development. Moreover, they are spending Rs 100 crore for development of the stable at this racecourse.
