Rohit Sharma showcased to the whole world why he is the one and only ‘Hitman’ last night, as the Indian skipper blazed through the Pakistan bowling ranks to a stellar 86 runs off 63 balls.

The opener, who was tasked with chasing down a target of 192 set by arch-rivals Pakistan, laced the likes of Afridi, Shadab and Nawaz for boundaries galore, and eventually steered India to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Pakistan.

Rohit’s swashbuckling outing at Ahmedabad yesterday was peppered with six massive sixes, as he went on to add to his tally of most sixes in international cricket, a feat he achieved in the previous game in the World Cup against Afghanistan. Along the way, he also became the first Indian cricketer to register 300 sixes in ODIs with his third six of the innings last night.

During his innings, the ‘Hitman’ belted one off Haris Rauf and sent one way back into the stands as he smashed it over 90m, sending the Ahmedabad crowd into a frenzy. He even startled umpire Marais Erasmus with his effortless knock and went over to him to flex his muscles to him after the fourth six of his innings, with a huge smile on his face as the two shared a wholesome moment together.

Rohit set the stage for India to chase down the target as the Men in Blue cruised to an easy seven-wicket victory, following a Shreyas Iyer fifty to top off the innings. But, the man of the match was none other than pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who scalped two Pakistan wickets for a mere 19 runs in 7 overs.

After the match was over with, Rohit took to the stage to praise his sensational bowling attack and the impact they had in ensuring India clinched the ever-important win against Pakistan to keep their 8 game winning streak against their arch-rivals in the World Cup alive.

“The bowlers also did their job. Lots of five-fors. [On the team getting together] I will keep my fingers crossed. We don’t want to get too excited and also not get too low as well. It is a long tournament, nine league games and then the semis and final. Just have to keep the balance and go forward. I have said it before, for us it was an opposition [Pakistan] we wanted to play. Every opposition we come against they can beat you. We have to be good on that particular day. The past and future does not matter,” Rohit Sharma said during the post-match presentation ceremony.
