Armaan Malik Talks on Everything From His International Collaborations to Wedding Bells | EXCLUSIVE

Bollywood singer Armaan Malik talks about his latest endeavours, including his collaboration with Calum Scott and being featured in the Desi Vibes Playlist on Amazon Music for Prime Day. Armaan also discusses his relationship with social media influencer Aashna Shroff and his musical journey.

Excerpts from the interview:

Recently, you worked with Calum Scott. How was the experience, and can you share any interesting anecdotes from that collaboration?

Working with Calum Scott was an amazing experience. He is not only a great artist but also a fantastic human being. We met in the UK during a writing trip and connected instantly due to our mutual love for heartfelt music. In our first session, we created “Always.”. The process felt effortless and natural. It was crazy to see how our voices blended so well with each other, making the collaboration all the more special. I’m really proud of what we have achieved with “Always,” and I hope to do many more collaborations like this in the near future.

Let’s talk a bit about that wonderful collaboration with Ed Sheeran. How did this partnership come about and how was the entire experience?

Collaborating with Ed Sheeran was a long time dream for me. It all started with his team reaching out to Warner Music India. They wanted an Indian artist to work on the hit song, and when I heard of the opportunity, I immediately said yes. I had a great time working on the song, and I absolutely enjoyed the creative freedom his team offered to us in terms of writing my own verse for the song. It is definitely an experience I will forever cherish.

Your musical style spans across various genres. Do you have a favourite genre to perform in, and if so, why does it resonate with you?

While I enjoy experimenting with different genres, pop music holds a special place in my heart. There’s something about the energy and how it connects with so many people that excites me. It allows me to connect with a broader audience and express myself in a vibrant and dynamic way. Pop music is versatile, meaning it can cover a wide range of styles, themes and emotions. This flexibility lets me explore different feelings and ideas in my songs, which is why I love performing pop music. It’s fun, engaging and brings people together, making every performance a memorable experience.

You’ve sung in numerous languages and have a vast array of hit songs. Which of your songs do you consider your biggest hit, and what makes it special to you?

For me, songs like ‘Pehla Pyaar,’ ‘Kasam Se,’ and my debut English single ‘Control’ hold profound significance. Winning the MTV EMA for ‘Control’ and ‘You’ was a surreal milestone, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who supported me. Collaborating with Ed Sheeran on ‘2 Step’ was a dream come true, enriching my musical journey beyond expectations. Each of these songs hold a special place for me due to their emotional depth and the overwhelming love they received from fans worldwide.

You’ve collaborated with many renowned artists. Can you tell us about your favourite collaboration so far and what made it unique?

Collaborating with Ed Sheeran was a milestone for me. I’m grateful for that opportunity. Working with Eric Nam and KSHMR was incredible too. Eric’s voice and flair really brought something fresh to our song. And KSHMR’s production skills added so much energy to our collaborations. These experiences have really inspired me to keep exploring new sounds and styles in my music journey.

What was your experience of working on Amazon Music’s Artist Diaries?

It’s always a great time shooting with Amazon Music. This time around, I shot a longer content piece called Amazon Music Artist Diaries series and it truly was an incredible experience. Thank you to the team for having me on this!

Congratulations on your engagement! How are you balancing your wedding preparations with your busy schedule?

Thank you! It’s definitely not easy balancing both personal and professional commitments, especially when you have a wedding to plan, but both Aashna and I work well together and try to bring in the right balance, and I’m grateful for all the support we get from our families and teams to help keep everything going! All the stress aside, we’re both extremely excited for the big day!

How did this association with Amazon Music and the Desi Vibes initiative come to be?

My relationship with Amazon has been a long standing partnership and the team has always been supportive of my releases. This collaboration with them was just another step towards strengthening our partnership and I’m so glad to be a part of the Desi Vibes initiative. It was an extremely fun time shooting with the team!

Finally, what’s in store for Armaan fans this year? What can they expect?

I’ve recently launched my merch brand, “intheAM”, where one can find cool apparel and exclusive merchandise that reflects my journey and style. It’s a way for me to connect with my followers on a deeper level beyond the music. It’s always exciting to engage with them and see them flaunt my merch with so much enthusiasm.
