Audi India targets sales of 1,500 cars this year
Audi will start assembling its third model, Q5, in India next year.

Chennai: Audi India is targeting sales of 1,500 cars this year, an increase of over 450 from 2008, and hopes to capture 15 per cent share in the domestic luxury car market.

"Going by the sales trend, we are confident of exceeding the target. We have sold 1,128 units during the first eight months of this calendar year. Our client profile is an equal mix of first time luxury car buyers as well as those who drive competing brands," said Head of Sales, Anil Redd.

However, it would not be right to compare the other two German luxury car makers - Mercedes and BMW - as Audi was young in the Indian market compared to the others, he added.

The positioning of Audi models, Reddi said, would be on the advanced technology platform.

"While our cars will offer a differentiated value proposition, Audi showrooms will offer a new experience for the buyers," he said, adding that Audi India showrooms and service stations were state of the art.

Each showroom would cost anything between Rs 7 crore to Rs 10 crore.

Sometime next year Audi India will start assembling its third model, Q5, in India after A4 and A6.
