Know All About Yobykes: The Electric Scooter Mamata Banerjee Hailed a Ride on to Protest Against Fuel Prices
The electric scooter Mamata Banerjee was spotted on riding is from one of the oldest EV makers in the country - Yobykes made by Gujarat based ELECTROTHERM.

As the Petrol prices in some states have breached the Rs 100 mark, poll-bound West Bengal has cut VAT on by Re 1 on petrol and diesel. State’s chief minister is offering an alternative mode of transport to people and today protested in a unique manner against rising fuel prices un the country. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rode pillion on an electric scooter to state secretariat Nabanna. Banerjee was seen sitting behind state minister and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, who rode the battery-powered electric scooter.

The electric scooter she was spotted riding is a product from one of the oldest EV makers in the country. Called Yobykes, the electric scooter maker is a brand by ELECTROTHERM, a conglomerate from Gujarat founded in 1983, having primary interest in electricals and electronics engineering. In 2006, ET was the first company to introduce “Electric Two-Wheeler" in an organized manner in India under the brand name YObykes.

The scooter Mamata sat on was the YObykes Drift DX, a full-electric scooter. We look at the features and specifications of the Yo Drift DX to understand what the product is all about-

Yo Drift DX gets design features like LED DRLs and five color options in combinations with white paint including red, green, blue, grey and black. The dimensions of the Drift stands at 1810x 700x 1125 mm while the ground clearance is 160 mm. The seating height of the electric scooter is 775 mm and the wheelbase is 1320 mm.

In terms of features, the Yobykes Drift DX gets a digital display, 3 in one locking system, keyless start option, multiple riding and reverse option, in-built mobile charging socket and other such modern equipment.

The Yo Drift DX gets an output of 250 KW with maximum speed of 25 kmph and a battery range of 60 km. You can choose between two battery options, including a VRLA Lead acid battery or a typical made-for-EV Lithium Ion battery. It takes 7-8 hrs to charge the Lead battery and 3-4 hrs to charge the Lithium Ion battery.

The bike has 180 mm disc brake at front and 110 mm drum brake at the rear. It has a payload capacity of 75 kg (single rider) for optimum range and performance. Yo bykes is offering a 3 years warranty on motor controller and converter.
