UP Police Ban e-Rickshaws on Ghaziabad’s Hapur Road, Commuters Can Take Autos or Walk
The first phase of the ban will be enforced from Purana Bus Adda to Dasna Flyover. E-rickshaws will continue to be permitted to operate within localities

The Uttar Pradesh Police will enforce a ban on e-rickshaws from next week to ease traffic in Ghaziabad. The ban is prompted by traffic jams caused by e-rickshaws affecting vehicles traveling to Moradabad, Rampur, and Lucknow via Hapur Road Tiraha and Bus Adda.

Following a comprehensive survey and a successful trial on NH9, preparations are underway to implement this ban on e-rickshaws on Hapur Road in Ghaziabad. The first phase of the ban will be enforced from Purana Bus Adda to Dasna Flyover. E-rickshaws will still be permitted to operate within localities.

Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra said the ban will take effect on September 1-2. Guidelines and new rules will be communicated to the public on Thursday to minimize inconvenience. The ban will particularly affect areas around Old Bus Stand, RDC Flyover, and Hapur Road Chungi.

E-rickshaws will be stopped before the Hapur Road intersection. Passengers will then need to take an auto, bus, or walk about 50 meters to reach Hapur Road. Auto drivers have been instructed to pick up and drop off passengers only in designated lanes to avoid traffic obstruction.

The police hope this scheme will improve traffic flow. However, there is widespread public resentment. Many people are frustrated by the additional costs. Previously, e-rickshaws provided a direct route, but with the new ban, passengers will incur double fares. First, they will pay for the e-rickshaw to Hapur Road and then for an auto to continue their journey.
