In a tale reminiscent of Ekalavya’s dedication, 14-year-old Preetham from Ramanahalli village of Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru district has earned a place in the India Book of Records 2023 for his harmonium prowess being blindfolded. A 9th-grade student at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pritam achieved this feat by self-learning the harmonium through YouTube, showcasing extraordinary commitment.
Notably, his ability to play the instrument blindfolded for extended durations sets him apart, highlighting the remarkable achievements possible through self-driven passion and determination in the digital era.
Initiated by the harmonium’s allure witnessed during a village temple event, his relentless passion led his parents to procure the instrument for him. Surprisingly, they were not much interested in providing him with the instrument. From his early days in Class 3, he dedicated himself to harmonium practice, refining his skills not only at school but also within temple precincts.
Playing harmonium blindfolded, in recent times, has attracted many children. Videos around the internet can be seen getting viral where children play the harmonium with their blindfolds on.
Back in 2021, another Karnataka boy B Pradyumna from Udupi, set the record for playing the harmonium continuously for the longest duration while blindfolded. Born on November 2, 2002, he accomplished this feat at the age of 19 years, 1 month and 9 days, playing non-stop for an impressive 50 minutes and 44 seconds. This remarkable achievement was officially confirmed by the Indian Book of Records on December 11, 2021, adding another accolade to Pradyumna’s musical accomplishments.
Sourabh Soni, born on October 10, 1996, in Dug, Rajasthan, achieved the record for playing the highest number of musical instruments. In 58 minutes, on January 4, 2022, he showcased his talent by mastering 61 instruments, including jaltarang, pedal matka, harmonium, guitar, tambura, ravanahatha and other instruments.
