Mumbai Indians (MI) put up a spirited batting show against Delhi Capitals (DC) as the five-time champions look for their first win in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. After being asked to bat first, openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan provided a blistering start to the innings with a 70-run stand for the first wicket while the likes of Hardik Pandya and Tim David also chipped in with impressive cameos. But it was Romario Shepherd who set the Wankhede Stadium ablaze with his late fireworks in the 20th over, firing 4 sixes and a couple of boundaries to take MI to their third-highest total – 234/5 – in IPL history.

Shepherd launched a brutal assault against Anrich Nortje who ended his spell with sorry figures 2 for 65. The Caribbean all-rounder began the fireworks with a boundary straight down the ground and then smashed a hat-trick of sixes. The penultimate ball was drilled straight down the ground before he finished the 20th over with a maximum over wide long-on.

Mumbai Indians churned out 32 runs off the final 6 balls to finish with the 24th 200-plus score in IPL history. They equalled RCB’s record for most 200-plus scores in the IPL and are only after Chennai Super Kings (29).

Earlier, Rohit walked back after a 27-ball 49, which featured six fours and three sixes. Kishan continued to play attractive strokes until he hit one powerfully back to Patel, with the bowler taking a sharp catch to end the Mumbai opener’s innings for 42 off 23 balls, including four fours and two sixes.

Skipper Pandya began well with a couple of powerful hits for four, but Mumbai’s acceleration eventually died down even though they kept hitting those odd fours and sixes.
It was, however, a forgettable outing for Suryakumar Yadav, who perished for a two-ball duck on his first game since mid-December last year.
