In a bizarre turn of events, Yorkshire’s Shan Masood survived a hit-wicket and a run-out off a no-ball due under MCC Law – 31.7 Batter leaving the wicket under a misapprehension in the Vitality T20 Blast match against Lancashire at Leeds on Thursday.

Opting to bat first, Masood and Joe Root were in the middle at the fag end of the Yorkshire innings when Jack Blatherwick was operating in the 15th over. Masood was batting on 58, when for a scoop but moved across his stumps too much to get hit-wicket, but Blatherwick had overstepped. The umpire signaled the same, but Root at the non-stirker’s end had taken off for a run and Masood was left stranded, thinking he was out hit wicket. The keeper then threw the ball at the non-stirker’s end to run out Masood.

However, there was confusion in the middle as Masood protested saying he did not go for the run because he through he was out hit-wicket.

The umpires deliberated and in the end, Masood survived the hit-wicket and the run-out under MCC Law of Cricket 31.7 Batter leaving the wicket under a misapprehension.
