ICC Lifts Ban on Sri Lanka Cricket After Two Month Suspension With Immediate Effect
ICC had suspended SLC for government interference after Sri Lanka's ministry of sport dismissed the cricket board and replaced it with an interim committee.

International Cricket Council (ICC) reinstated Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) as a member after a two-month suspension on Sunday.

FULL ICC Statement:

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board has today lifted the suspension of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) with immediate effect.

SLC was suspended in November for being in serious breach of its obligations as an ICC Member, in particular, the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation and / or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.

The Board have been monitoring the situation since the suspension and are now satisfied that SLC are no longer in breach of membership obligations.

Sports Minister Harin Fernando tweeted about the lifting of suspension.

ICC had suspended SLC on November 10 for government interference. The Sri Lanka Parliament had unanimously passed a resolution, calling for the sacking of the SLC Board. The resolution in the parliament was supported by both the ruling and opposition parties. The parliament resolution came two days after the Court of Appeal restored the SLC management headed by Shammi Silva, who had been sacked by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe.

The Board have been monitoring the situation since the suspension and are now satisfied that SLC are no longer in breach of membership obligations.

The issue was resolved after Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe sacked sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe amid the ongoing controversy in the Sri Lanka Cricket board.

The suspension meant Sri Lanka losing the right to host the ongoing U-19 World Cup.

ICC CEO Geoff Allardice visited Colombo early this month and met both Wickremesinghe and Fernando.

The government said it was working on a new sports act which would not allow political interference in sports administration.
