IND vs BAN: Chennai Likely to Set Up a Red Soil Pitch for First Test Against Bangladesh: Report
It is suggested that the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai could see a red soil track being used.

As Team India prepares for the upcoming Test Series against Bangladesh which is set to begin on September 19 at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, it looks like the Indian team will look to take the advantage away from the visiting side.

Bangladesh who are coming on the back of a historic whitewash against Pakistan, winning both the Tests in Rawalpindi, will be looking to maintain their momentum as they come up against a more dominant home side in Team India.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the first Test is set to take place on a pitch which has predominantly comprised of red soil content.

On the touring side, Bangladesh are those who have been used to playing in black-soil conditions which tend to be firmer due to the higher clay content. As a result, black soil pitches tend to be those which favour the spinners right from the start with a grip on offer right from the get-go.

Red soil on the other hand would have lesser clay content and would show more bounce on the initial days and crack up as the days go by, proving to be an advantage that can be exploited by the fast bowlers, followed by the spinners in the latter stages.

The red soil track could be the choice keeping in mind the headline Test event of the year, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 where India would be touring Australia for a five-match series to defend the title.

Team India’s Training Underway in Chennai

Rohit Sharma and co have already made their way to Chennai where they have undergone their first training session since the Sri Lanka tour. The likes of Morne Morkel, Team India’s new bowling coach was also part of the squad, marking his first session with the team as well.

As per the report, Morkel was seen spending most of the time with the fast-bowling unit which included the likes of Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and others. It is also said that Morkel would have a one-on-one session with the bowling attack in the coming days as well.
