India will be defending their ICC U-19 World Cup crown against Australia in the tournament’s final this weekend. The Indian team have been spotless at the tournament so far, winning each of the six games they have played. Their semi-final against the hosts South Africa was an absolute nail-biting thriller with the defending champions taking the win by two wickets.
The match began with the hosts losing the toss and finding themselves batting first. South Africa’s Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Richard Seletswane were the ones who anchored the innings for their side. At the end of the innings, a target of 244 runs loomed for India. Things looked dire as India found themselves four wickets down at just 32 runs. That’s when captain Uday Saharan stepped up for the defending champions to score 81 runs in 124 balls to seal a narrow win by two wickets. They will be hoping to replicate a similar result against Australia in the tournament’s final.
The ICC U-19 World Cup final will be played at the Sahara Park Willowmoore Cricket Stadium on February 11. Australia will be aiming to bring home their fourth crown in the competition’s history on Sunday. They have also not lost a single game in the tournament so far. They overcame Pakistan by just one wicket to book their spot in the final. Now it remains to be seen if they can overcome their final hurdle.
