Keshav Maharaj gave his well wishes the Hindu community in South Africa ahead of the Pran Pratishtha Ceremony at Ram Mandir in Ayodhya

Indian-origin South African cricketer, Keshav Maharaj wished the best ahead of the Pran Pratishtha ceremony at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya which is set to take place on January 22. The South African cricketer is a devout Hindu and has also visited temples in India during the recently concluded World Cup as well.

The Pran Prathishtha ceremony which is soon approaching, will be a grand affair with many stars arriving from various industries to take part in the momentous occasion. Among Indian sportspersons, Indian batting legend Virat Kohli and others are among those who have been formally invited for the auspicious occasion.

Keshav Maharaj’s Indian roots trace back to his great-grandfather who was from the Sultanpur village in Uttar Pradesh. The spinner has been public about his faith and has also shared images of when he went to visit the temples after the ICC ODI World Cup as well in 2023.

He recently visited the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala as well during his World Cup campaign as well.

Maharaj also walked out to the Ram Siya Ram track from the film ‘Adipurush’ when he came out to bat in the ODI series against India in South Africa which also prompted a cheeky question from the Indian wicket-keeper KL Rahul. Listening to it, Rahul told Maharaj, “Keshav Bhai… Every time you come to the crease, they play this song.” The South African cricketer smiled and said, “Yeah.”

As the Ram Mandir is set to open in Ayodhya, several sports personalities like Sachin Tendulkar, Ravichandran Ashwin and Anik Kumble have been invited for the big occasion.

Former Indian leg-spinner, Anikl Kumble has already arrived in Lucknow ahead of the Ayodhya Ram Temple Pranpratishtha ceremony that will be held tomorrow.

Maharaj is currently taking part in the SA20 franchise cricket league in South Africa where he represents the Durban Supergiants, He is also the skipper of the side. Currently, the Durban Supergiants are second on the table with the same points as the Paarl Royals at 13 points but have played the extra game. Their next game will come up against MI Cape Town at the Newlands Cricket Ground on January 23.
