MS Dhoni is one of the most successful skippers ever to feature in the Indian Premier League. In his 264 IPL appearances, Dhoni has scored 5243 runs at an average of 39.13.

One of the finest skippers in the history of Indian cricket, MS Dhoni guided his side to some incredible victories over the years. Dhoni has been one of the most successful captains in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well.

The legendary Indian cricketer has scripted several records during his 16-year-long career in the franchise competition. He has won the IPL title as many as five times as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings.

Dhoni has been playing in the T20 tournament since the inaugural edition in 2008. He was also the first player to complete 200 matches in the IPL. Dhoni achieved the historic feat on this day (October 19) in 2020 when Chennai faced Rajasthan Royals at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

It turned out to be a low-scoring affair after CSK faced a batting collapse in the first innings. MS Dhoni scored 28 runs off as many deliveries. Ravindra Jadeja finished with an unbeaten 35-run knock. CSK set a target of 126 runs, losing five wickets.

RR lost three early wickets during the powerplay scoring 28. That is when Jos Buttler took over the charge and scored 70 off 48 balls. He was ably supported by the then-RR captain Steve Smith, who remained not out at 26. The duo completed the chase and forged a 98-run partnership to complete the chase in 17.2 overs.

CSK could not qualify for the playoffs in the 2020 IPL. They bounced back in the next edition and took home the fourth title under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The Chennai-based franchise secured the services of Dhoni for USD 1.5 million in 2008. He came to the tournament after leading India to the a T20 World Cup triumph in 2007.

MS Dhoni lifted his fifth IPL trophy as the CSK skipper last year. He stepped down from the leadership role ahead of the IPL 2024 season, with Ruturaj Gaikwad replacing him at the helm.

MS Dhoni is the most-capped player in IPL history. He is also one of the few Indian batters who have amassed 5000-plus runs in the competition. In his 264 IPL appearances, Dhoni has scored 5243 runs at an average of 39.13.
