Virat Kohli ran out Dhruv Jurel with a brilliant piece of individual skill in the field.

Virat Kohli’s lightening-fast reflexes and accurate throw from the deep effected a terrific run out on Dhruv Jurel during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) Eliminator between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

The incident happened on the first ball of the 14th over as Cameron Green was bowling to Riyan Parag. Green bowled it short over the middle stump as Parag got on top of the bounce and pulled it firmly in front of square on the leg side. Kohli, who was standing at deep square leg, ran around to his left, covering a fair bit of distance as the batters probably thought it would have been an easy two.

Kohli got the ball in a flash, forcing the batters to stutter for a moment and that is what cost them. Kohli fired in a bullet of a throw at the bowler’s end as Green somehow collected it, almost making a mess of it while dislodging the bails. Replays show that the ball wasn’t completely out of his hand and it was a fair run out as no part of Jurel’s bat was inside the popping crease.

Sent into bat, Rajat Patidar top-scored for RCB with 34 off 22 balls. In-form opener Virat Kohli made 33 off 24 balls before falling to wily leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, while Mahipal Lomror chipped in with a brisk 17-ball 32.

Senior India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bowled beautifully to finish with excellent figures of 2/19 in four overs while taking the wickets of Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell off successive balls. Avesh Khan took 3/44 in his four overs.
