'Stop Sweeping Me': Suryakumar’s Animated Chat with Rashid Khan After Smashing AFG Skipper For a Six - WATCH
While the Indian stalwarts struggled against Rashid Khan, Suryakumar seemed to have great fun facing the Afghanistan captain.

Suryakumar Kumar once again rose to the occasion as India took Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup Super-8 game in Barbados on Thursday. The right-hand batter was back to his nonchalant best, picking up the boundaries at will on a track where the other batters struggled to get going.

India had a tough start on a typically slow Barbados track after opting to bat first. They lost Rohit and Kohli early but the likes of Pant, Surya and Hardik came to the party to help raise the tempo. Suryakumar stood out with yet a 23-ball half-century and his partnership with the Indian vice-captain set the base for a challenging 181-run total.

While the Indian stalwarts struggled against Rashid Khan, Suryakumar seemed to have great fun facing the Afghanistan captain. He scored 16 runs against the leg-spinner, playing some gorgeous shots. In the 9th over, Surya swept Rashid’s tossed-up delivery for a boundary through backward square leg.

The India No. 3 played a similar shot in the 11th over against Rashid which landed in the stands for a maximum. After getting hit with a couple of sweep shots, Rashid confronted Suryakumar and the scene was captured on camera.

The conversation was unheard but Ravi Shastri, while calling the game, guessed that Rashid would have asked Surya to stop sweeping.

India expectedly opted to bat at the Kensington Oval and the way the ball held up on the pitch early on, it seemed playing through the line will be tough.

Surya kept finding the big hits from the other end. He outrageously whipped a wide full toss from Azmatullah Omarzai to deep square-leg before a six and four off Farooqi took him to a well-made half-century.

After Surya’s departure, Hardik then got into the act and hammered the ball into the stands on a couple of occasions. His straight six off left-arm spinner Noor Ahmed was all brute power, almost shattering the window of the press box. In the end, India did well to post their highest total at the historic venue.
