Kolkata Knight Riders allrounder Venkatesh Iyer played a brisk innings of 26 not out against Delhi Capitals in an IPL 2024 match-winning effort.

Iyer’s knock included two fours and a six and after the contest, he was seen getting some batting lessons from DC’s Director of Cricket and legendary India skipper Sourav Ganguly.

In a clip shared by KKR on Instagram, Ganguly could be seen giving Iyer some tips.

Ganguly had handled the leadership duties at KKR from 2008 to 2010. He was released by the Kolkata-based franchise ahead of the IPL 2011 auction.

He then later joined now-defunct Pune Warriors India and played his last IPL game against KKR in May 2012.

Iyer and Ganguly were spotted having a chat following the first leg of the meeting between KKR and DC in Vizag too.

KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy also engaged with the former Indian skipper back then. The two-time IPL winning franchise shared a video of their interaction on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

KKR emerged victorious in both their meetings with the DC this season. The Shreyas Iyer-led side crushed DC with a resounding-margin of 106 runs in the first week of April.

In their next clash, KKR completed the season double with an impressive seven-wicket win.

Chasing a 154-run target, KKR scored the winning runs with 21 balls to spare. Chakravarthy was adjudged player-of-the-match for his superb bowling figures of 3/16 against the Rishabh Pant-led side.

“The last two matches before this, we didn’t defend that well. Because the wickets have become very placid in the second innings and definitely the fact that we could go to bowl in the first innings was good. The pitch was also a little helpful,” Chakravarthy said after the match.

“So the thing is, the other pitches have been slow. This pitch was a little bit more turning. That was the difference. The length is basically the same for all the matches. It’s just how the wicket behaves. In other matches, it was not giving this much help but this wicket gave and helped our bowlers,” he added.

With 12 points from nine games, KKR are currently placed at the second spot in the IPL 2024 standings. In their next match, they will be up against five-time champions Mumbai Indians.
