'Deep Rot in Our Higher Education System': Rahul Gandhi Writes to PM Modi, Demands Debate on NEET Issue
"Lakhs of families have made tremendous personal sacrifices to support their children. For many, the paper leak is a betrayal of a lifetime dream," reads Rahul Gandhi's letter to PM Modi

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a debate on the NEET issue in the Parliament. This comes after the Opposition’s request for a debate on this issue has been denied by both Houses of Parliament on June 28. During today’s Parliament session, the Opposition raised slogans in the Lower House asking PM Modi to speak on the NEET paper leak issue. Speaker Om Birla asked LoP Rahul Gandhi to maintain the dignity of the House.

In his letter, Gandhi requested the Prime Minister for a debate on the NEET UG paper leak issue and posted on X saying, “I believe that it would be fitting if you were to lead this debate.”

“Our aim is to engage constructively to find a way forward. At this moment, our only concern is the welfare of 24 lakh NEET aspirants across India. Lakhs of families have made tremendous personal sacrifices to support their children. For many, the paper leak is a betrayal of a lifetime dream,” reads the letter.

“The NEET examination deserves immediate attention because it has exposed our higher education system,” the letter added. The Congress MP also stated that the government’s move to defer other exams and replace the NTA DG is a move to cover up the systematic breakdown of our centralised testing system adding that the past seven years have seen over 70 paper leaks, affecting over 2 crore students.

Meanwhile, earlier Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said that Congress doesn’t want a discussion of the NEET UG 2024 issue, they only want chaos and obstacles in the functioning of the parliament. “Congress doesn’t want discussion they only want chaos, confusion, and obstacles in the functioning of the parliament. They are only doing politics on the issue…NTA has got a new leadership now… a committee has been formed under K Radhakrishnan,” the education minister told ANI.
