It’s no secret that 2023 was the year of the Deols. Dharmendra made heads turn with his portrayal of a romantic hero in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Sunny Deol delivered one of the biggest box office disruptors of the year with Gadar 2. Bobby Deol became the talk of the town for his menacing portrayal of Abrar in yet another blockbuster of the year, Animal. Known to be private, the Deols were seen in all their glory on several occasions this year, including Sunny’s star-studded Gadar 2 success bash and a special screening of the film hosted by Esha Deol.
In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Bobby reveals that he feels extremely humbled and overwhelmed with all the love his family has been receiving. “God has been kind. The love my family has received from fans and audiences is so genuine. They genuinely wish the best for us. When good things happen, people want to be a part of the celebration. We’re lucky and blessed for that. When my brother hosted a success party for Gadar 2, everybody from the industry came because they were genuinely happy for us. It doesn’t happen that to everyone.”
Bobby has often spoken about the lull in his career and how offers had dried up until he made a comeback with Race 3. He followed it up with stellar performances in Aashram, Class Of 83, and Love Hostel. But the euphoria he witnessed post the release of Animal was unparalleled. Speaking about this year which gave a push to his second innings, he tells us, “I’ve become fearless. Nothing can scare me as an actor. I can take up challenging roles and do my best.”
Failure, he believes, has taught him resilience and made him more level-headed. “I’ve seen failure. It’s up to you if you want to learn the lessons that failure teaches you. It strengthens your self-belief. An actor’s life changes from one weekend to another. You’ll give a hit one weekend and a flop on the other. Sometimes, you expect so much from one project and nothing happens. That’s how an actor’s life is, including the biggest stars. We’ll always have that insecurity. All big stars have also gone through a lull,” states the Housefull 4 and Yamla Pagla Deewana actor.
What further makes Bobby happy is that the time has finally arrived when he’s being offered a plethora of characters that he couldn’t get the chance to play around with earlier. “I was sick and tired of playing the same kind of roles. When you do things that are out of your comfort zone, it brings out something new from within you and it surprises people. It happened when they saw me in the first teaser of Animal where I’m pointing my knife to call someone inside the room. I hadn’t seen that scene on the monitor. The first time I saw it, I was like ‘Ohh,’” he exclaims.
