French star Kylian Mbappe endured a broken nose during his side’s Euro 2024 opening contest against Austria last night. Mbappe had to be taken off during France’s 1-0 win after his face got hit by Austrian defender Kevin Danso’s shoulder.
Now, Mbappe has shared a fun statement on X (formerly Twitter). “Any ideas for masks,” Mbappe asked his fans. A Mirror article claimed that the French football team skipper left the hospital just after 1 am and he will have to wait and assess how things progress before deciding about taking part in the next game against Holland in Leipzig on Saturday.

During the post-match press conference, the France football team boss Didier Deschamps said that Mbappe was “not doing well” and added that “his nose got badly hit”. “We need to check it out but it seems quite complicated, which is really very unfortunate for us. He didn’t get off lightly,” he said.
France wanted to replace Mbappe with Olivier Giroud but the match started again without allowing Les Bleus to make the substitution. The former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) footballer went back onto the field without obtaining permission and was shown a yellow card by referee Jesus Gil Manzano before the substitution was, eventually, made.
It was later confirmed that Mbappe had suffered a broken nose. Mbappe will, reportedly, return to action wearing a mask. But it is still not certain whether the FIFA World Cup-winner will be able to feature in the next Euro 2024 game against the Dutch side.
“Kylian Mbappe returns to the base camp of the French national team. Mbappe suffered a broken nose during the second part of the Austria-France held this Monday in Düsseldorf,” a statement from the French Football Federation (FFF) read.
As per a report published by ESPN, Mbappe is having a custom mask made for him that he needs to wear when he returns to action. France won via an own goal from Austrian defender Maximilian Wober in the 38th minute of the game. The victory marked Didier Deschamps’ 100th win as the French national team coach.
