Fabrizio Romano Reveals Liverpool-target as Xavi's Potential Replacement at Barcelona
Hansi Flick has managed Bayern Munich and the Germany nationa team.

Famed football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed a Liverpool-linked manager Hansi Flick to be interested in managing Barcelona. Former midfielder and current Barcelona coach Xavi announced last month that the ongoing season would be his last with the Blaugrana club. This has led to the Catalan side hounding for suitable options in Europe. Amid the search for the ideal suitor, Romano told CaughtOffside that the former Germany coach is amongst the preferred candidates for the job. In the exclusive interview with the football outlet Romano said, “Hansi Flick – There have been reports that the former Bayern Munich and Germany manager is Joan Laporta’s preferred candidate to replace Xavi. I don’t have confirmations on this”.

Last month saw Jurgen Klopp reveal that he would step down as the coach of Liverpool FC and a day later, Xavi revealed the same about his position in Barcelona. Xavi felt that the Catalan club needed a change and the best thing to do would be to make it clear that he was leaving. Speaking further to CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano also revealed that Barcelona are surely going to be very careful while choosing their favourite candidate to succeed Xavi. Yet, he was sure that Hansi Flick would surely be happy to take up the manager role at the Spanish club. In the interview, he said, “It’s very early stages at Barca, they will take some time before deciding their favourite candidates, starting interviews and more. Flick would love to work for Barcelona, that’s for sure; but there is nothing more than this so far, no decisions, nothing advanced.”

Hansi Flick was previously linked with Liverpool as one of the four primary candidates to succeed Klopp at Anfield. As per TBRFootball, Liverpool had named Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann and Flick as the primary candidates for the job. Flick had last coached Germany and has not managed another team since losing his position last year.

Hansi Flick has proven himself to be amongst the upper echelon of top-class managers in the world in the last few years. He was previously known for serving as assistant manager during Joachim Low’s tenure as the head coach of the German National team. However, he cemented his position in football history in 2020 after guiding Bayern Munich to a European treble. He became one of only two managers ever in the club’s history to achieve this feat. He was also at the end of the historic 8-2 beatdown of Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, eventually winning the final against Paris Saint-Germain.
