Indian Men's Hockey Team faced their first defeat in the European Tour as hosts Spain thrashed 1-4 in their opening game of the three-match series on Monday.

Both the teams were 1-1 at half time, but in the second half Spain gave a superb performance by scoring three more goals and humiliating the Indian side. SV Sunil was the only scorer for India.

Earlier in the day, Gurbaj Singh was suspended for nine months by Hockey India after being charged with creating disharmony within the team. Felix had leveled the charges against Gurbaj in his report following the conclusion of last month's Hockey World League Semifinals in Antwerp, Belgium.

The Sardar Singh-led team were superb in their earlier series against France as they claimed a 2-0 win over France in their opening Test match at Le Touque.

This is a preparatory tour for the upcoming World League Final which will be held in India later this year. They have already made it to next year's Rio Olympics.
