Meryl Streep, Husband Don Gummer Separated 6 Years Ago: 'They Have Chosen Lives Apart'
Meryl Streep separated from her husband, Don Gummer six years ago. The actress' spokesperson issued a statement.

Meryl Streep and her husband, Don Gummer have been separated for over six years, a new report has claimed. The 74-year-old Oscar-winning icon was married to 76-year-old sculptor since 1978. However, a new report has shared that the couple has parted ways. This comes amid Meryl’s recent spotting at the Princesa de Asturias Awards 2023, where she was seen wearing her wedding ring. However, she was not seen with Don.

A source told Page Six that Meryl has been living separately from Don for over six years now. The news of the Murders in the Building star’s separation was later confirmed by her team. “Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart,” the actress’ spokesperson said.

Meryl was last seen in public with Don back in 2018 when they walked the Oscars red carpet together. The now-separated couple celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on September 30.

For the unversed, Meryl was introduced to Don in 1978, shortly after her boyfriend, actor John Cazale died. He passed away following a lung cancer. Meryl and Don fell in love and in the same year, they tied the knot. The wedding took place at her parents’ home. The couple has kept their relationship away from the spotlight ever since.

They went on to have four kids: singer-songwriter Henry Wolfe, actresses Mamie Gummer, Grace Gummer and Louisa Jacobson. Meryl and Don are also grandparents to five grandchildren.

Speaking with Vogue in 2002, Meryl said, “There’s no road map on how to raise a family: It’s always an enormous negotiation. But I have a holistic need to work and to have huge ties of love in my life.” In 2017, she made a rare mention about Don while accepting the Oscar for her perfromance in The Iron Lady.

“First, I’m going to thank Don because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech, they play him out with music. I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives you’ve given me,” she said.
