3 Simple Ways to Power On Your Roku TV without a Remote
If you've lost your remote, you can still turn on your Roku TV using the TV's power button. The Power button is well-hidden, but once you find it, it's easy! You can also use the Roku mobile app on your Android, iPhone, or iPad to turn on your Roku TV without the remote, or try a connected HDMI-CEC device like a gaming console.
Things You Should Know
  • To turn on your Roku TV without the remote, you'll need to use the power button. It can be tricky to find, but it's there.
  • The Power button is either below the screen on the bottom edge, on the left or right side panel, or the back of the TV.
  • You can use the Roku mobile app to control your TV or use an HDMI-CEC device like a gaming console to turn it on or off.

Using the Roku App

Install the Roku app on your smartphone or tablet. If you can't find your Roku TV remote or it's not working, you can use the Roku app on your Android, iPhone, or iPad to control your TV in the meantime. This method requires your Roku TV and your phone or tablet to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. It won't work if your Roku TV is connected to the internet with an ethernet cable. You can use the Roku mobile app to turn on your TV and navigate menus to watch movies and shows. If your Roku TV isn't on Wi-Fi, see this guide to learn how to connect to Wi-Fi without a remote.

Open the Roku app and sign in. The first time you open the app, you'll be prompted to log in with your Roku account. Follow the on-screen instructions to do so. If you're not prompted to sign in, tap the profile icon at the top-right to bring up the prompt.

Tap Devices and select your Roku TV. As long as the TV is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone or tablet, it will show up as an option. If your Roku TV doesn't appear in the Devices list, press the power button on the TV to turn it on first. Also, if your phone is connected to a VPN, disconnect from it.

Tap Remote at the bottom to use the app as a remote. You can now turn your Roku TV on and off, launch channels, pause, fast forward, and rewind, just like your Roku remote.

Using a Gaming Console or Streaming Device

Connect a gaming console or streaming device to your Roku TV's HDMI-CEC port. If you have a gaming system like an Xbox One or a PlayStation 5 or a streaming device like Chromecast or Amazon Firestick, connect it to the HDMI-CES port on the back of your Roku TV. Once connected, turning on your gaming console will also turn on your Roku TV. Not all Roku TVs support HDMI-CEC. If you haven't enabled HDMI-CEC on your Roku TV, this method may not work.

Turn on the console or streaming device. When the HDMI-CEC compatible device is connected, turning it on using its own power button or remote will also turn on your Roku TV. You can then control your TV using the Roku app.
