You can test your ADT alarm system in two ways: through a sensor test or through a communications test. A communications test ensures that the alarm system can transmit alarm notifications to the ADT monitoring centers when needed. You should perform a communications test monthly to make sure that ADT can receive notifications and dispatch emergency services in a timely manner. This wikiHow will show you how to do so.[1]

Put your alarm system on test mode. To do so, call ADT at 1-800-ADT-ASAP (1-800-238-2727) or visit the MyADT website and click on My Alarm > Systems Management > Test Alarm.
Turn your alarm on. To do so, enter your alarm's code and press "AWAY" on the keypad.
Trigger a sensor. For example, open a window, walk by a motion sensor, or bang near a glass break detector.
Let your alarm sound for at least two minutes. This is enough time for the alarm to be transmitted to ADT.
Check the MyADT website or call ADT to see if the alarm was successfully reported. If it was not, then call ADT for service.
Take your alarm system off of test mode. To do so, call ADT or visit the MyADT website and click on My Alarm > Systems Management.
