The opposition BJP in Telangana has lashed out at the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government in the state for sanctioning Rs 2.45 crore to make arrangements for a congregation by Tablighi Jamaat in Vikarabad district next month.
The three-day event will be held from January 6 to 8 at Nematnagar village of Parigi mandal. The order, which approved a budget of Rs 2,45,93,847 towards the congregation, was issued by Secretary of Minority Welfare Syed Umar Jaleel.
In a tweet, Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar said: “Pure evil and outrageous of Congress government in Telangana to fund Tablighi Jamaat meeting. During the #Covid19 pandemic, the main reason for the spread of the virus in India 2020, was the Tablighi Jamaat’s religious prayers. This organization’s entry into Telangana in the name of gatherings and meetings is leading to many suspicions, that too at a time when the corona virus is spreading in India again.”

“Curious why Congress is embracing an organization banned in several countries, including Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Saudi Arabia? Tablighi Jamaat’s controversial teachings have led to prohibition in these nations,” Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh said.

In a press meet, Telangana BJP spokesperson Rachna Reddy hit out at the Congress government for issuing the order. “Why is the government giving money to an organization that spreads terrorist ideologies? What does Chief Minister Revanth Reddy have to do with ‘tukte-tukde’ gang?”
“We are not against minorities, but it is deplorable that the Waqf Board provided funds to Tablighi Jamaat on a permanent basis for the construction of facilities like fresh water pipes and parking, without asking for any intelligence information or consulting the authorities,” she said.
In the order, funds have been sanctioned towards construction of sump, laying of pipeline, erecting transformers and other civic amenities for organising the state-wide Ijtema (Islamic congregation).
