Islamabad: At least 15 people were killed and 30 injured in a bomb blast in eastern Pakistan on Monday, Geo TV channel reported.

The suicide blast took place in the house of Rasheed Akber Khan Nawani, a member of national assembly, in Bhakkar district of Punjab province, it reported.

Nawani, who belonged to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was also injured, according to the report.

The attacker blew himself up in a crowd of people, police and hospital officials said.

Pakistan's new civilian government is fighting a wave of Islamist violence blamed on militants in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan, and is also under intense US pressure to crack down on the extremists.

The blast came just four days after a suicide bomber detonated explosives outside the house of a senior member of Pakistan's ruling coalition in a northwestern town, killing four people.

More than 2,000 people were killed in Pakistan last year in terrorist attacks, including suicide bombings that the government blames on militants who oppose the country's support for the US-led campaign against terrorism.
