VIRUDHUNAGAR: A 17-year-old girl was killed when cracker wicks exploded at a house in Aruppukkottai near Virudhunagar on Wednesday. According to sources, Manoharan of Chockalingapuram in Aruppukkottai, had stored wicks used for igniting crackers without a licence in his home. Early on Wednesday, a spark from a mosquito coil had fallen on the wicks, triggering an explosion. In the impact, Manoharan’s daughter, Hemalatha, suffered injuries and was rushed to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai, where she died on Wednesday night. The Aruppukkottai police registered a case and were investigating.
