Even as Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) honorary president Vijayamma are vying with each other to win the hearts of BCs with promises of allotting more seats in the 2014 polls, PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana mooted a new proposal of allotting seats to each caste across the state in proportion to their population for the general elections.
Botcha demanded Naidu and Vijayamma to accept his proposal if they were really committed for the political empowerment of the backward classes.
Talking to mediapersons at Gandhi Bhavan here on Tuesday, Botcha ridiculed Naidu and Vijayamma’s promises to BCs by saying that both were shedding crocodile tears.
“The real motive behind their promises is to come to power in the 2014 polls. If these two leaders really stand for political empowerment of the downtrodden, they should accept my proposal and come for a discussion to chalk out an action plan,” he said.
The PCC chief felt the concept of allotting seats to various castes based on their population would pave the way for an “egalitarian society”.
As per his proposal, of the 294 seats in the state Assembly, 45 percent will be given to BCs, 7 percent to minorities and 33 percent to OCs according to their population.
Of the 33 percent seats allotted to OCs, 15 percent will be for Kapus, eight percent for Reddys and five percent for Kammas.
Botcha dared the TDP chief and YSRCP honorary president to appoint BC leaders to head their respective parties if their love towards the BCs was not deceptive.
He also reminded Naidu and Vijayamma that the Congress’s commitment to BC welfare was evident as he, being a BC, was sitting on the PCC chief’s throne.
