24 convicted in Kandhamal riots case

PHULBANI: Around 24 persons were convicted and 10 acquitted in two cases relating to the Kandhamal riots in the fast track court no. 1 on Saturday.Of the 30 persons chargesheeted for damaging houses of people of a minority community in Kurmingia village under G Udaygiri police limits, 24 were sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs  1,000each. In case of default, they would face an additional three months of imprisonment. Six persons were acquitted. In another case, four persons were acquitted of the charges of setting ablaze the Pasara outpost under Tikabali police limits during theriots.
