KURNOOL: Six persons were washed away in two different places in Kurnool district on Monday. Four persons drowned in Telugu Ganga while two children got drifted in KC canal waters.Golla Venkataswamy, a native of Timmapur in Mahanandi mandal, along with eight of his family members, went to Omkaram temple on a bullock cart on the occasion of Kartika Somavaram. While returning home, the cart, along with the eight persons in it, fell into the Telugu Ganga water as the bullocks got scared due to the heavy rush on the road being Kartika Somavaram. Soon some onlookers rushed to their rescue and saved Venkataswamy, Laskhmi Devi, Srikanth and Venkataramana.The bullocks were also brought to the banks.The body of Nagalakshmi (30) was retrieved. Nandyal Taluk CI Usen Peera said that efforts were on to retrieve the bodies of Venkatakrishna (12), Subbarayudu (12) and Anuradha (17).Meanwhile, two school-children Harshat, Jami Ulla both belonging to Jupadubangla and students of 2nd class, were washed away in KC canal.After returning home from school, they went to the canal and drowned in it.The body of Jami Ulla was recovered but search for that of Harshat is continuing, the Jupadubangla SI said.
