New Delhi: With the festival of lights round the corner, Tihar, Asia's biggest jail complex, is abuzz with activities with the authorities planning to make this Diwali 'special' for its inmates.
Every nook and cranny of the jail complex will be decorated and lit up with nearly 50,000 candles and 55,000 earthen lamps. To cater to those who have a sweet tooth, ten quintals of sweetmeats have also been called for, sources in the jail administration informed.
The requests have been placed with the inmates of Jail No 2 and 6 and no effort is being spared to ensure the delivery on time. Women prisoners in Jail No 6 are also making arrangements for 'Pujan' on Diwali night.
Special counters of sweetmeats will be set up ahead of the festival so that 14,000-odd inmates of the jail could indulge in the customary exchange of sweets. This will enable the foreigner undertrials and convicts too to share and exchange gifts and sweets with other inmates of the complex.
Certain VIP jail inmates like RJD MP Pappu Yadav, are also planning to celebrate the festival in a big way. The RJD MP will invoke 'Ganesh and Lakshmi' on that day, the sources said.
Though behind bars, some women prisoners are beaming with pleasure in the run-up to the festival and looking forward to performing 'Diwali Pujan' and praying for the prosperity and well being of their families.
