Elango R, the chief human resource manager of a reputed company is also a blogger, columnist, coach and a speaker. Along with all this, he has now got a new identity to his credit, an author. Elango recently launched his first book in the city titled “You don’t Need a Godfather”. The book is simple and an easy read that can teach a few shortcuts to success in the corporate world. Apart from being just a management book, the author connects with the readers by siting various examples that he faced in his personal life.He has also used his eight-year-old-son as an example in every chapter to reach out better. To add the bit of fun in learning, the author’s sarcasm maybe witty but at the same time, it can make you think twice and help understand the reality of the corporate world. He speaks about common matters at a workplace — how to face your boss and also how to manage your co- workers. Despite the fact that the book revolves around the corporate world, there are chapters which talk about how one can build their personality, which is a useful tool in the real world. It is well written in plain and simple English, to make it easier Elango has divided the book in to four sections each section revolving around one main idea. On reading the book one can easily say he knows what he is talking about and his efforts put in the book has not gone in vain. After the release, Elango spoke with City Express, about his book, his inspiration and his message to its readers. Why have to titled the book, ‘You don’t need a Godfather’?People believe such things that only when the celestial stars are aligned, when you wake up on the right side of the bed or wear your birthstone or a particular color shirt to work, will get your job done better. I beg to differ from these supernatural beliefs, hence, I named my book ‘You don’t need a Godfather’.Here godfather refers to these unnatural beliefs that make us or break us. All I am trying to say is that we should make our own choices and beliefs to get our job done and not wait for any star to reach a particular position.Any particular reason why you started your journey as an author with a motivational book?I had always been writing in various medium on different topics. I wrote this book to give a fine understanding about how one can work in and with the corporate culture. I believe this is more of a management book than a motivational book. When I was writing this book, I knew for a fact that, I wanted to share my knowledge of the corporate world. Many of them have come forward and asked me what can I do to get a promotion or a raise in my company. This book is not a shortcut but it shows you the path you could take. What made you write your first book?I am an avid reader. I have read books from almost very single genre. I too wanted to write a book one day, and I have accomplished that. My friends asked me that even though I always wanted to write a book I never did but now you have. How did you do it?My answer was simple, I sat down and began to write.Where did you get your inspiration from?Inspiration is all around us, I learnt a lesson or two everyday while I was interacting with people. But my son’s various questions were the most curial element that went into making this book possible.Where do you see this book ten years from now? This book is more like a mentor and a guide. One can finish reading this within a day and refer to it when ever they are in that particular situation. I am sure they will keep referring to it every now and then. What would you like to tell your readers?Success is in your hands. Play hard, if you fail, get up and try again. Never let success get to your head.If you have to describe your book in one phrase what would you say?Success is achievable and you can do it. The book is filled with subtle humor and metaphorical situations that can give an edge in facing the corporate world with confidence and a smile on the face.
