Alwar rape case accused escapes
Mohanty, who was convicted in April for raping a German colleague from Delhi, was out on parole from November 20.

New Delhi: The main accused in the Alwar rape case, research student B H Mohanty has gone missing from Jaipur.

Mohanty, who was convicted in April for raping a German colleague from Delhi, was out on parole from November 20 to meet his mother who was reportedly ill.

It was agreed that Mohanty – the son of a senior IAS officer from Orissa - would live in an IAS officer's house in Jaipur where his ailing mother will come to stay with him.

Mohanty was supposed to mark his attendance in the Jaipur police station everyday after he was awarded a 10-year jail term by a fast track court in Jaipur in April. He was a research colleague of the victim and raped her when they had gone on a trip to Alwar.

The woman alleged that they checked into separate rooms at the hotel and Mohanty came into her room at night and assaulted her.

The victim alerted a common friend in Germany on March 21 who then informed the German embassy in Delhi of the incident.

Mohanty was arrested from the Alwar railway station on March 21 and was produced in a local court the next day. He was remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.
