HYDERABAD/KARIMNAGAR: S Rajinder, a 26yearold construction worker from Karimnagar district succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Najran of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday night. The victim was in a coma for more than a month following a road accident on January 5. Rajinder who hails from Medipalli village in Karimnagar had gone to Saudi Arabia about a year ago and has been working as a labourer for Zuhra Khudair Trading Establishment, a construction company in Riyadh. Recently, he was sent to Najran along with four others to work at a new construction site.
According to sources, Rajinder was hit by a speeding car while crossing a street. He was rushed to hospital where he slipped into a coma. The police managed to track down the hitandrun driver, who is a 22 year old Saudi youth and sent him to remand. After battling for a month with the help of life support system, the victim had shown signs of improvement on Monday as he opened his eyes and was shifted to the general ward from the Intensive Care Unit. But he breathed his last within the next 24 hours. "He hardly spent a week in Najran when he met with the accident," his friends at Medipalli said.The Indian Consulate authorities at Jeddah are making repatriation arrangements to send the body back to the victim's native place. They also took up the matter with Rajinder's company which in turn promised to do the needful for the bereaved family.
