Varanasi: Senior VHP leader Ashok Singhal on Saturday backed BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's remarks that AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was "an agent of Pakistan".

"If Kejriwal has shown Kashmir to be a part of Pakistan on a map on his website, then what do we call him? Is he then not an agent," Singhal told reporters in Varanasi.

He alleged some forces were behind Kejriwal and had suggested to him to form a party soon after the Jan Lokpal movement of Anna Hazare.

The same forces were aiming to stop Modi from becoming the next Prime Minister. They don't want a stable government to be formed in the country, he claimed.

He said there was a lot of anger among the people for the Congress party and Kejriwal was trying to cash in on that.

To a question, Singhal said, "The Ram Mandir issue is still closely associated with us... Ram Mandir is not just a brick- or stone-made temple but it is a sacred feeling towards Ram, it is our prestige, our culture (sanskriti) and our religion."

Singhal said, "We must get the highest numbers to form the government, then not just Ram Mandir but other issues like slaughter of cows, forced conversion and plight of Ganga and Yamuna rivers would also be looked into."

Addressing a rally in Jammu and Kashmir on March 26, Modi termed Kejriwal as an "agent of Pakistan".
