Karachi: Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik called the terror strike on the naval base, PNS Mehran, in Karachi an attack on the country. Addressing the media after the over 15-hour long siege ended on Monday afternoon, Malik said that all major Pakistani cities have been put on high alert against terror attacks.
Calling Taliban and al Qaeda as Pakistan's enemies, Malik said that some powers are trying to destabilise Pakistan following the killing of al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in a raid by US Navy SEALs in the garrison town of Abbottabad.
"Terrorists are trying to attack our assets. This is an attack on Pakistan. After Osama's killing, there are some people who want to destablise Pakistan," Malik said after taking stock of the situation at PNS Mehran.
He congratulated the security personnel for securing the naval base and said that 10 of them were killed in attack while 15 others injured. He also said that two terrorists are suspected to have run away.
The naval commandos conducted the entire operation with the help of Pakistan Rangers and police, he added.
Revealing that 17 foreigners including Chinese and American personnel were present at the naval base, Malik said that all foreigners are safe.
