The two time finalist will now face another Frenchman, Michael Llodra, in the third round.
Melbourne: Two-time finalist Andy Murray won the first five games on his way to a routine 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 win over Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France at the Australian Open on Thursday.
Fourth-seeded Murray has lost one of his last 25 matches against French opponents. He will face another Frenchman, Michael Llodra, in the third round.
Roger-Vasselin was outclassed in the first set and though he put up stronger resistance in the next two, he missed the only break point opportunity he had.
Murray, who has lost the last two Australian Open finals, is playing his first Grand Slam tournament since hiring eight-time major champion Ivan Lendl as his coach.
