KOCHI: They are the people who remain awake when the entire world sleeps. No no, not talking about the security guards, rather about thieves. For the first time in the history of Indian cinema, the autobiography of a thief is going to get a filmy version. And it is the story of thief Maniyan Pillai, written by journalist Indugopan, that is going to be portrayed on celluloid. The much-read book - ‘Thaskaran Maniyan Pillayude Athmakatha’ - will be conceived into a film by writer-director Babu Janardhanan.Babu has already acquired the rights for the venture from the author. “The book- Thaskaran Maniyan Pillayude Athmakadha - can be referred to as one in which the author pours out his entire emotions. That is the major reason why I selected this book for my next movie,” Babu told Express. However, he said that his film was not an attempt to glorify theft or thieves. “Maniyan Pillai hails from Thiruvananthapuram. His autobiography mainly deals with his way of theft, life, love and how he started to repent about his past mistakes when he was locked up in jail. The movie mainly deals with the life of Maniyan Pillai between 1980 and 1990,” Babu added. The movie will be told with the embellishment of dark humour.
