BANGALORE: The fate of students studying in 12 colleges in the city hangs loose as Bangalore University (BU) is denying renewal of affiliation to them. This despite the respective colleges submitting checklists to the Local Inquiry Committees (LIC) appointed to look into the renewals. One such college is RBANM’s First Grade Evening College whose affiliation is pending for renewal since the academic year 2010-11.Express managed to procure details of Dr Ramachandraswamy Committee’s report, which recommended disaffiliation on the basis of the principal Manjunath M not being qualified and that the librarian was not appointed.“It is baseless.Manjunath holds a master’s degree with 15 years of experience that qualifies him to become a principal. And Chokkalingam was appointed as librarian way back in 1998, when the college was started,” said one of the trustees.Express has copies of the appointment orders of the Principal and Librarian.Later, for the academic year 2011-12, an LIC with Prof B M Jayashree as chairperson was formed that recommended affiliation to the college. However, the report has not been sent to the college till date.“The second committee took heed of the checklists we provided. But we have not received the report. The university had no problems in 14 years. Why are they disaffiliating us now?” said the trustee. When the college moved the High Court over the matter, it was decreed that BU should consider the reply given by the college to the university’s show cause notice.Amidst all this, the college is now preparing to apply for affiliation for 2012- 13.When Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev was contacted, he said, “I cannot recollect the names of the colleges. The reports of the respective LICs would be placed before the Syndicate for this months meeting. The Syndicate meeting is scheduled to be held on November 23.
