New Haven: Avenging their Cincinnati Masters defeat, Rohan Bopnna and his Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi stunned fourth seed Poles Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Martin Matkowski in the first round of the Pilot Pen tennis tournament here.

The unseeded Indo-Pak pair scored a 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 win to secure a quarter-final berth in the doubles event of the USD 663,750 hard court event, a part of US Open series tournaments.

Bopanna and Qureshi had lost to the Polish pair at last week's Cincinnati Masters.

Also advancing to the quarterfinals were Mahesh Bhupathi and Belarusian Max Mirnyi, who overcame a tough challenge from Frantisek Cermak and Michal Mertinak.

The second seeded Indo-Belarusian duo beat the Czech-Slovakin pair 3-6, 7-6(1), 10-4 in their opening round encounter.

No Indian is competing in the singles event.
