BELGAUM: Belgaum’s Marathi speaking mayor Manda Balekundri’s pro-Maharasthra stance has created a fresh controversy in the linguistically sensitive city. Her slogans along with other pro-Maharastrians leaders demanding that Belgaum and other predominantly Marathi speaking places in Karnataka be merged with Maharashtra at a protest organised by the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) has come in for severe criticism.Taking serious note of the matter, the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike said that Manda betrayed Kannada and Urdu speaking corporators and urged her to tender her resignation as Belgaum mayor. About 20-25 pro-Kannada and pro-Urdu corporators will hold another meeting on Friday where they are expected to take a decision about the mayor.
