On the horizon of the World Environment Day, CNN-IBN is all set to broadcast a special documentary ‘Broken Landscape’ created by Washington based Wilson Center. Shot in the Northeastern state of Meghalaya for a large span of time, the documentary focuses on the environmental and human impact of the process called ‘Rat-Hole Mining’.
It is a process that involves the workforce to squat into the deep holes, chipping away coal and hauling it away in baskets. The documentary brings to light the accidents that often take place with the workers at these mines and the enormous environmental damage caused by it.
Deliberating further, the documentary will examine the impact of National Green Tribunal Ban on rat hole mining.
