Campaign for first phase ends today

CHENNAI: Campaign for the first phase of the elections to the local bodies comes to an end at 5 pm on Saturday.  In the first phase, 10 corporations, 60 municipalities and 259 town panchayats and 191 panchayat unions  go to elections on October 17. AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa who has been campaigning for the past three days, is concluding it at Chennai on Saturday. Already, Karunanidhi has campaigned in Tiruvotriyur and Thiruvanmiyur. Important leaders of various parties — DMDK founder Vijaykanth, PMK founder S Ramadoss, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, CPI State secretary T Pandian and CPM State secretary G Ramakrishnan — have been canvassing votes in different parts of the State.
