Bangui (Central African Republic): The Central African Republic (CAR) which is witnessing the bloodiest sectarian violence has also seen cannibalism. According to some reports from the capital of the war torn country Bangui, there have been several instances of human flesh eating. But, an incident which has been captured live on mobile phones has shocked the world.
According to the BBC, the only major media house in the world reporting from Bangui, horrific footage has emerged of a cannibal eating the leg of a Muslim slaughtered by a rampaging Christian mob. The victim was hauled from a bus, battered and then stabbed before being set on fire in the capital city Bangui, according to the BBC.
In the aftermath of the incident, one of his attackers Ouandja Magloire - who also calls himself 'Mad Dog' - grabbed hold of his leg and then began to devour it.
After this barbaric incident he said, "I ate the whole thing down to the bone."
He claims that he dragged the Muslim off a mini bus and ate his leg 'to avenge murder of his pregnant wife'.
He also claimed that Muslims were responsible for it and he was angry with them. "They broke down the door and cut my baby in half. I promised I would get my revenge," he said.
He spotted the killer in a mini bus, chased it with 20 others, forced the driver to stop it, dragged him off the bus, attacked him with rods and machetes and poured petrol and burnt him alive. According to eye witnesses, he ate the leg of that person with a piece of bread.
Some aid agencies claim that it is an isolated incident. But, the locals claim that there have been many more such incidents of cannibalism in the country.
An eye witness told Daily Mail "they were taking machetes to people and burning the bodies and eating them".
In a Christian dominated land locked central African country, the Christians and Muslims have been fighting a bloody civil war. It is one of the poorest and uncivilized countries in the world. On Friday, President Michel Djotodia, the first Muslim to rule the Christian-majority nation was forced to resign.
The remote country has a terrible past. It is known for macabre practices like man-eating. The most ruthless dictator of the Central African Republic (CAR) Jean Bedel Bokassa, who ruled between 1966 and 1979, was known for human flesh eating.
According to reports he was regarded by many as a brutal dictator and was accused of eating human flesh, incorporating it in meals for visiting officials and feeding slain opponents to animals. He died in 1996 and received a posthumous pardon in 2010. Some Christian fighters believe that human flesh makes them invincible and put chunks inside amulets that they wear.
